For many, October 31 is Halloween, a day and night of wearing costumes and trick-or-treating. Halloween in fact has its roots in the ancient Celtic world. My entrepreneurial journey began at age 11 in my mother's dress shop in Northern Ireland. After moving to America following a field hockey romance in 1978, I was working as a Civil Engineer in Pennsylvania. When my Dad was diagnosed with a terminal illness, I realized how difficult it was to squeeze in trips back home. Dad's illness became the catalyst for starting a business that would allow me to travel home routinely.

In February 1985, Donegal Square was born—a cultural bridge inspired by my Irish upbringing. Over the decades, my wife Linda and I have developed the shop and helped establish the Celtic Cultural Alliance and Celtic Classic Festival. Today, we've created a warm haven where visitors are "instantly transported across the Atlantic to Ireland...no passport required," offering authentic Celtic gifts in an atmosphere that feels like visiting the old country with friends.
