Neville and Linda Gardner of Donegal Square Bethlehem

read the post

Neville Gardner started Donegal Square in 1985. In small business years, 34 years is a lifetime! We are currently undergoing our first major renovation since we moved to 534 Main Street in 1996. Normally Donegal Square is only closed for the day for a major holiday (or a major snowstorm). Being closed for more than […]

Donegal Square has been in business since 1985, and we have been at 534 Main Street in historic Bethlehem since 1996. In that time, we have not significantly updated our retail space and we are planning a face lift. Donegal Square is getting a top-to-bottom makeover so our physical surroundings are as beautiful as the […]

Donegal Square is often referred to as “the Irish store”, which isn’t entirely incorrect, but it tends to define us too narrowly. In fact, we carry items made by artisans in Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. That is why our motto is “Bringing you all the Best from Ireland and the British Isles”. Not Just St. […]

Telling Stories and Uniting People Irish music tells the story of the land and its people. September is one of our favorite months at Donegal Square. The cooler days and nights are perfect for our cozy sweaters, the beautiful new products we ordered at the spring trade shows for fall delivery are arriving daily, and best of all…it’s time for Celtic Classic! The 31st annual Celtic Classic is happening September 28-30 […]

My entrepreneurial journey began at age 11 in my mother's dress shop in Northern Ireland. After moving to America following a field hockey romance in 1978, I was working as a Civil Engineer in Pennsylvania. When my Dad was diagnosed with a terminal illness, I realized how difficult it was to squeeze in trips back home. Dad's illness became the catalyst for starting a business that would allow me to travel home routinely.

In February 1985, Donegal Square was born—a cultural bridge inspired by my Irish upbringing. Over the decades, my wife Linda and I have developed the shop and helped establish the Celtic Cultural Alliance and Celtic Classic Festival. Today, we've created a warm haven where visitors are "instantly transported across the Atlantic to Ireland...no passport required," offering authentic Celtic gifts in an atmosphere that feels like visiting the old country with friends.
