The ancient Celtic calendar has four festival days: Imbolc, Beltane, Lughnasadh, and Samhain. Lughnasadh falls on August 1 and marks the transition from Summer to Autumn as well as the beginning of harvest season. Concidentally, “Lughnasadh” is the modern Irish word for the month of August. Four Festivals The ancient Celts marked the seasons with […]

March 27 is International Whisk(e)y Day. Whiskey is beloved by many and has been called the greatest drink in the world, even the “Water of Life”. They say everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, which is ironic because Saint Patrick himself was not even Irish. If you’ve never been to a Burns Night Dinner, it really is something to behold. Few dining experiences are as steeped in tradition as this. It is truly a feast for the senses. Listen to bagpipes and addresses by the host, see the guests proudly wearing their Scottish finery, and taste the delicious food and […]

My entrepreneurial journey began at age 11 in my mother's dress shop in Northern Ireland. After moving to America following a field hockey romance in 1978, I was working as a Civil Engineer in Pennsylvania. When my Dad was diagnosed with a terminal illness, I realized how difficult it was to squeeze in trips back home. Dad's illness became the catalyst for starting a business that would allow me to travel home routinely.

In February 1985, Donegal Square was born—a cultural bridge inspired by my Irish upbringing. Over the decades, my wife Linda and I have developed the shop and helped establish the Celtic Cultural Alliance and Celtic Classic Festival. Today, we've created a warm haven where visitors are "instantly transported across the Atlantic to Ireland...no passport required," offering authentic Celtic gifts in an atmosphere that feels like visiting the old country with friends.
